Our Standard
100% Vegan
"Vegan" means exactly what it sounds like: nothing in the formulation, from the base to the fragrance, comes from an animal. Not honey, not beeswax, not collagen, not carmine (a red pigment made from crushed insects — more common in cosmetics than most people realize), not lanolin, not squalene sourced from shark liver.
What We Use Instead
Every one of our formulations is built entirely from plant, mineral, or lab-derived (non-animal) ingredients. Where a conventional product might use beeswax, we use candelilla or soy wax. Where one might use animal-derived squalene, we use squalane pressed from olives. Where collagen shows up in anti-aging products, we build with plant peptides and mushroom-derived compounds like the tremella and reishi extracts in our Root & Resin collection instead.
Vegan vs. Cruelty-Free — Not the Same Thing
These two labels get used interchangeably, but they answer different questions. Vegan is about what's in the product. Cruelty-free is about how it was tested. A product can technically be vegan and still have been tested on animals somewhere in its history, and a product can be cruelty-free while still containing animal-derived ingredients like lanolin. We hold ourselves to both standards — see our Cruelty-Free page for that side of it.
Verification, Honestly
We're in the process of pursuing third-party vegan certification (The Vegan Society Trademark) to back this claim with an independent seal, not just our word. Until that certification is finalized, consider this page our formal, honest commitment — and we'll update this page the moment certification comes through.
